Dear QETA members

The Australian Curriculum has commenced its public consultation review period, which includes Economics and Business (E&B) in Years 7-10.

Review period: until 8 July. Implementation: January 2022.

This is our chance to feedback to have a more teacher and student friendly curriculum, that teachers will want to teach, and students will want to learn. It is important for Economics teachers to advise on the curriculum and assist teachers in Years 7-10 who do not have specific Economics subject matter knowledge.

  • There are changes to the structure of the E&B curriculum, including the introduction of two sub-strands, being the “function and operation of systems” and “economic and business activity”. QETA seeks your feedback on this amendment.
  • The curriculum review aimed to refine, reduce and declutter the curriculum. The indicative hours of the E&B curriculum have not been adjusted (20 hours in Years 7 and 8 and optional 50 hours in Years 9 and 10). QETA seeks your feedback as we are concerned with some of the changes proposed.

We have prepared an information PDF of a summary of the changes and some draft suggestions to provoke specific feedback. LINK

QETA has organised for webinars to provide an information and discussion forum, to collect your feedback and/or to empower you to feedback directly. The feedback is sought on what works well with the proposed changes, and what is not quite there yet so needs further refinement, reduction  or decluttering.

Further information and details regarding registration will be available on our website.

Please send this information to your HOD and other teachers who teach in the Economics and Business space in Years 7-10. Non-members are welcome to attend the webinars as we value their feedback. Interested non-QETA members can email info@qeta.com.au from their school email account to request access to the information package.

Thank you.

QETA Management Committee.
